Here is Nicole with one of the yummy goodies she baked for a bake sale at First Lutheran, DeKalb, this past Sunday. She raised $510 for the trip and her congregational family matched this with another $500. Many thanks to helpers: Bailey and Sue Russell, Liz and Caroline Peregrine, Diane Gomez (Mom), Jackie Winfield and Natalie Sheehan (cousin). Nicole Billips (right) and Kevin Rogers (below) will travel to southern India next month to launch a new partnership between the Arcot Lutheran Church Junior Ministries, Northern Illinois Synod and LOMC. This partnership will connect young people from India and America to get engaged with children across the two nations and cultures in doing God's mission of walking together, practicing interdependence and mutuality. Nicole says "What I am most looking forward to for this trip would be being able to share and spread God's love, word, and music in a new place with new brothers and sisters in Christ." Objectives: Despite the labels that others put on us, understanding that the only label that matters is child of God. God's love crosses all boarders. Baptism is a journey of healing and forgiveness, not a destination of perfection. Read John 4:1-15: How was the woman at the well bound by society? Why do you think she went to the well during a time when no other women were there? Have you ever felt like you were unworthy of Jesus' love or been embarrassed to think of Jesus meeting you because of where you were or what you were doing?  The woman at the well had been labeled, yet Jesus saw her faithful heart. Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center and Lutheran Youth Organization have teamed together for Sr. High youth ministry in the Northern Illinois Synod. Our first get-together was Saturday, April 14, 2012. We were blessed with ten youth, seven adults, representing four conferences of the Northern Illinois Synod. The congregations represented were: Living Waters from Crystal Lake, Trinity Lutheran from Milledgeville, Good Shepherd from Rockford, All Saints from Byron, Freedom from Oregon, St Paul from Dixon, St Johns from Ashton, and First Lutheran from Prophetstown. We often hear how kids today are not like the past. Then we hear all the horrible things that define kids today. These youth squashed all those sayings. These youth of today are wanting more connectedness to Christ, opportunities to be heard, looking for leadership opportunities, and trying to make a positive difference in God's world. We started with laughter and fun with get-to-know-you games. After that we went into a Bible study and poured water as learned about the woman at the well.  We talked about never being thirsty again with the Living Water. For the discussion we answered this question:   What is Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO)? In LYO, Youth are the Voice. LYO is a synod-wide Sr. High youth group where youth have a say in stuff to make a difference. Youth are encouraged to have ideas for the future, address important issues, invite and welcome all people, develop their leadership skills, and understand their Spirituality. The youth present decided on three things that they want LYO to do for them. They want to start with gifts. They want to discover and use their Spiritual gifts for God's work.  Next these amazing youth want to learn how to do Small Group Leadership while doing Faith Development within themselves. Interwoven with this, the youth will do Synod Wide Service Projects. Do you know a Sr. High student that wants to get involved? Here are some things to do: Synod Assembly Retreat, Fall Lock-In at Northern Illinois University, Ski Trip, and Synod-wide Service Projects (tba). Join LYO Friday, May 11 - Saturday May 12 for an overnight get-together. There will be food, games, and discovering of Spiritual gifts. Can't Make Get-Togethers but want to join in?
